Holy Name Catholic Secondary School Enrollment Now Open

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) — In Escanaba, students are back in the classrooms of Holy Name Catholic High School: A Chesterton Academy for the first time in 50 years. As part of the Chesterton Academy Network, it is a classic Catholic academy – much like a liberal arts school.

“Lots of culture, lots of extracurricular activities. Or very eager to have more people in the halls,” said Mark Surrell, principal of Holy Name Catholic Secondary School: A Chesterton Academy.

The school’s beliefs are woven into everything – giving students a fresh perspective.

“It teaches children not what to think but how to think. How to make their own decisions about what content we try to give them or show them,” said Isabella Wedig, professor of history, art and theology at Holy Name Catholic High School: A Chesterton Academy.

What makes Chesterton Academy Schools unique is its house system. Each student is placed in a house, and this provides friendly competition, discipleship, and accountability.

“One week your job at home might be raising the American flag in the morning and watering the plants or the next week it might be wiping down the tables after lunch and putting all the chairs back in place” , said sophomore Roman Zeise. at Holy Name Catholic High School: A Chesterton Academy.

Currently, there are only ninth and tenth graders in the school. Next year, Holy Name will offer ninth through eleventh grade and will offer a full high school by the 2023-2024 school year.

“Being here with the students, having this goal that is outside the classroom toward eternal life. I strive as much as the students,” Wedig said.

With 12 pupils in the school, pupils say it is a safe and close-knit environment.

“You have so much time to talk with the teachers and you can tell people really care here. You can just feel like you’re doing something with your life and learning to be a person,” said Piper Burrows, a sophomore at Holy Name Catholic High School: A Chesterton Academy.

Registration is now open for the 2022-2023 school year.
