All-District 4 coaches association boys, girls high school basketball

Hoover’s Elijah Barker, Louisville’s Will Aljancic, GlenOak’s Breezie Williams, Northwest’s Lily Bottomley and Fairless’s Grace Lyon lead Stark County honorees on All-District Coaches Association boys’ and girls’ basketball teams 4.

The 6-foot-5 Barker is the Division I Men’s Player of the Year. A senior guard, Barker averaged team highs of 13.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 interceptions while Vacuum went 17-6. The versatile Barker shot 57.4 percent from the floor.

Larry Kukura is Division I Men’s Coach of the Year after coaching Alliance to an Eastern Buckeye Conference championship and a 16-5 record.

McKinley’s Mike McCleskey is the D1 Boys Assistant Coach of the Year.

Aljancic is the Division II Men’s Player of the Year. One of the county’s top scorers, Aljancic led Louisville to its first district championship since 1993 and first appearance in a regional championship game in school history. He averaged 21.2 points and set a school record for single-season points with 572.

Nick Evanich is the Division II Men’s Coach of the Year after leading Marlington to a 17-6 record. The 17 wins were the fourth in school history.

Northwest’s Ryan Brotherton is the D2 boys assistant coach of the year.

Williams is the Division I Women’s Player of the Year. She also won Federal League Player of the Year after leading GlenOak to a second consecutive league championship. A three-year starter at point guard, the 5-5 Williams averaged 15.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 78.5 percent from the foul line. The Golden Eagles went 19-4 and finished second in the district. Williams is signed to play in Division I New Hampshire.

Jeff Couto is the Division I Women’s Coach of the Year after leading Louisville to a 15-7 record. Brian Layton of the Leopards is the D1 girls assistant coach of the year.

Bottomley is the Division II Women’s Player of the Year for the second straight season. She led Northwest (24-3) to a third straight PAC-7 championship and the program’s first district championship since 2008. She also earned Player of the Year honors for the Northeast Interior District and PAC. A 6-2 junior post player, Bottomley averaged 16.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.7 steals. She shot 59.7% from the floor. Bottomley, who has a D1 varsity offer from Loyola, Md. and interest from several others, has school records for most points in a season and most blocks in a career.

Rod Smith is the Division II Women’s Coach of the Year after leading the Alliance to a 7-16 record, which included the Aviators’ first victory in 10 years.

Lyon is the Division III Girls’ Player of the Year. Going 6-1, Lyon led Stark County with 17.8 ppg and was second in rebounding with 11.3 ppg. She led Fairless to a 13-11 record and a district semifinal. Lyon have scored 1,065 career points.

Tuslaw’s Jim Kurzen is the D3 Girls Assistant Coach of the Year.
